Coaching Staff

Head Coach Katie LovettHead Coach Katie Lovett

Katie Lovett was named the 10th head coach of Montana Western volleyball program in December 2018. In her three seasons at the helm, Lovett has guided the Bulldogs to a 20-49 (.347) overall record. Lovett serves as the senior woman leader for Bulldog Athletics. In this role she provides input on department initiatives and advocates  for equity and well being of student-athletes and staff.

She has coached three all-conference selections, 24 academic all-conference selections, and 12 Daktronics Scholar-Athletes.

UMW (2019-Present)

During the 2021 season, the Bulldogs were 8-15 on the season and 1-9 in conference play. Three Bulldogs earned all0conference honors. Martin, the 6-2 middle blocker from McAllister, Montana, was selected as part of the All-Conference All-Freshmen Team. Martin started in all 23 matches this season. She totaled 162 kills (1.95/set), hitting 0.270% on 411 total attacks. Martin ranked seventh in the nation with 41 solo blocks; she tallied 43 block assists for a total of 84 blocks this season. Kelsey Goddard, a freshman libero from Las Vegas, Nev., received honors for the All-Conference All-Freshmen Team. She appeared in all 23 matches, averaging 6.46 digs/set in conference play (eighth in the nation) and 5.94 digs/set overall (tenth in the nation). Goddard recorded a total of 493 digs, 48 assists, and eight service aces. Rylee Nickodemus, a redshirt freshman from Windsor, Colo., was Montana Western's NAIA Champions of Character recipient. 10 Bulldogs were named to the All-Conference Academic Team.

The 2020-21 season was shortened due to COVID-19. The Bulldogs finished 3-16. Cady Siemion was named second-team all-conference.

The 2019 season saw the Bulldogs take a step forward with a 9-18 record. Lovett won her first games as head coach on Aug. 22 with a 3-0 sweep of Valley City State. The Bulldogs finished 41st in the nation in blocks per game (2.06)

Assistant Coaching Career

St. Andrews University (2013-18) Lovett was named Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NAIA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year in 2018. Her 2016 women's team and 2018 men's team qualified for the NAIA National tournament. She has coached multiple All-Conference and AVCA All-Region players, and two AAC Freshman of the Year.

She has also coached for Carolina Juniors Volleyball in 2013 and coached all age levels and one undefeated team.

Lovett ran for the WVU club team for two years, which was ranked in the top 25 in the nation in spring of 2011.

Personal

A native on Concord, N.C. Lovett earned her Bachelor's degree in 2011 from West Virginia in Multidisciplinary Studies with a focus on Sports Communication. In 2015, she earned her Master's degree in business administration from St. Andrews University.
